No Wrong Door is a group of networked agencies committed to information-sharing and common approaches and standards in supporting people with complex needs; this ensures clients can access a whole system of support through one referral form and there is no ‘wrong door’.

No Wrong Door is specifically for service users who have multiple and complex needs.  Service users referred through No Wrong Door must have at least two of the four complex needs:

Homelessness- current or immediate threat of homelessness

Mental Health- concerns or diagnosis

Substance Misuse- substance misuse issues          

Offending- current or recent offending

MAKING A REFERRAL

Who can refer?

Any organisation can refer into No Wrong Door as long as their client meets the criteria below.

Criteria       

The criteria for referrals are:

  • Must be 18 (no upper limit)
  • Must live in Birmingham
  • Must have two or more complex needs

How to refer?

If you have revolving door clients/someone who doesn’t meet your referral criteria, who would benefit from a Navigator to access the right service, please complete the  Navigator Service Referral Form below and return to NWD@shelter.org.uk.  

NAVIGATOR SERVICE

The No Wrong Door Navigator Service is a service provided by No Wrong Door that takes an innovative approach to ensuring that those with multiple complex needs don’t fall through the gaps; and can access the services they need easily and quickly.

Who are we for?

For people who want support but have trouble accessing and engaging in support services in Birmingham.

To be referred they must meet the No Wrong Door criteria.  Once we have received the referral  will endeavor to make an appointment within the first 48 hours of receiving the referral.

The service we offer…

When a client presents to your door asking for help, but doesn’t meet your criteria or has additional needs which fall outside of your remit you can contact us by phone and we will provide on-the-day-stewardship, where they are escorted to the “right door”. Call 0344 515 2383 whilst you have the client with you for urgent, on-the-day support.

Alternatively, if you are referring a client for support elsewhere, but have any concerns at all about them not attending the appointment, or falling through the gaps whilst they wait for their referral to be processed, you can contact us and we will meet with the client and provide up to 12 weeks of support by helping them to engage with the services you have identified. No Wrong Door is a network of organisations working together to help and support people with complex needs. No Wrong Door ensures service users can access a whole system of support through one referral.

No Wrong Door is specifically for service users living in Birmingham at least two of the four complex needs:

  • Homelessness
  • Addiction (problematic substance misuse)
  • Risk of reoffending
  • Mental health problems.

The Lead Worker and Peer Mentor service can help an individual with three or more complex needs (Homelessness, Addiction, Risk of re-offending and Mental Health problems)

The No Wrong Door network can help individuals with two of the complex needs.

Organisations and Service Users have told us that:

  • Information needs to be shared between organisations so that service-users are not repeatedly required to “tell their story”
  • There needs to be better monitoring and tracking of service user progress between organisations.
  • We need to recognise that service users are co producers in their own care
  • Better referral pathways and mechanisms are needed to improve service user experience
  • We need to improve partnerships and collaboration between organisations

The NWD network, along with the work streams within Birmingham Changing Futures has been developed to support the above areas.  Measuring how effective No Wrong Door is will depend on evaluating both service user and organisational experience and outcomes.

  • Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) training

Each active No Wrong Door organisation will be offered Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) training for up to 10 of their staff. This includes access to reflective supervision provided by a clinical psychologist.

  • Bridging Fund

Each No Wrong Door organisation will be able to apply for hardship fund for service users called the Bridging Fund.

To become part of No Wrong Door your organisation will need to come into regular contact people with one of the four complex needs.

  • Homelessness
  • Addiction (problematic substance misuse)
  • Risk of reoffending
  • Mental health problems.

An active organisation of No Wrong Door will refer at least three referrals a month

All organisations who work with No Wrong Door will sign an agreement and information sharing protocol.

All organisations No Wrong Door provide us with copies of the following organisational policies:

  • Equalities Act 2010
  • Data Protection and Security
  • Confidentiality
  • Safeguarding
  • Any quality standards adopted by your organisation

The Network Coordinator (Alana Gooden) will make contact with you and arrange to go through the details.

You will be asked to sign an Agreement and Information sharing protocol. You will be asked to decide on the level of membership appropriate to your service.  There are three levels of membership:

  • Full – As a Full member you will be able to refer Service users into the network and support Service Users who have been referred by other organisations.
  • Support Only – You will offer support to Service Users but not refer.

Refer Only – You will only referring into the network.

NAVIGATOR SERVICE

Refer into No Wrong Door

We will need at least three referrals a month from your organisation to stay active.

Operational meetings:

You can attend the monthly operational meetings to review the functioning of the network.

Workshops:

You can attend workshops which will give you the chance to network, share best practice and relevant information with other network members.

BRIDGING FUND

The Bridging Fund is a limited fund, which will be available to Lead Workers  and No Wrong Door organisations as part of the Birmingham Changes Futures Together  Programme.  The fund is intended to (a) support any specific requirements of service users with multiple and complex needs that can’t be facilitated through existing provision, and (b) make emergency payments where there is no alternative source of money available.
